These days you need nearly a 1G of ram to even function on internet, I’m surprised you’re even operating with 256. Fix that first, everything else will fall into place. Minimize how many start up items you have starting when you “boot up” the system. If you’re running Norton Antivirus, it’s a huge resource hog, consider something that runs more silently in the background with less use of needed resources. I think once u fix the low memory problem it’ll help alot. When’s the last time you defragged? Also if u are running XP, under Internet Options there’s a good place to delete cookies and recently visited sites. Also there’s a wonderful spyware removal program that’s free at SpywareGuide.com - and Lavasoft has a free ad removal program at Lavasoft.com - both ads and spyware clog ur system up and leave systems slow when they put crap onto your harddrive. So everyone else on here is right, upgrade your RAM for sure.

Sounds like you have a fairly old computer. the best way is to buy a new one up upgrade. The way without spending money is to do a clean wipe and delete your computer and reinstall windows then remove any programs you wont need and only download what you need. Then go into the run command and type regedit and disable any programs you dont use at startup so they will only run when you need them and finally use control alt del and go into processes and anything with your user name next to it that you arent using, close it(except for like explorer and task manager

Yes. 256MB is very slow. Is your computer running in Windows XP? If your PC is running in Windows XP, 100% I can know your computer is very slow. If your computer is running in Windows Vista, it will be more slower. I have 2 suggestions:
1. Bring your computer to a computer specialist. Ask him or her to add new RAM. The standard RAM for Windows XP is 512MB while Windows Vista is 1GB. Don’t try to add RAM yourself if you are not experienced about this because it is very risky and may cause damage to your motherboard. Better send it to a computer specialist and let him or her solve for you.
2. If you don’t have enough money. Here is the second suggestion but this is not very good enough. The reason why your PC runs at slower speed because Windows XP or Vista is a more complicated programs compared to previous edition of Windows. Try to use Windows 98SE, ME or 2000 Pro on your PC. If you have the installation CD, you can reformat it yourself (if you know how to do it). For Windows 98SE and ME, you must find out the USB 2.0 driver for your motherboard while Windows 2000 Professional doesn’t need it. Like my computer, I’m also using Windows 2000 Professional. If you have the experience of using Windows 2000, you can use it again.

I think your pc is full of junk left behind by programs you have uninstalld and could be full of cookies and spy programs . So I would suggest you get a program called ccleaner, and another called advanced windows care 2 the latter you will get from 10 bit software site, they are both free. Also when you have run those 2 programs I would do a disk clean up you will find that in system accesories. GOOD LUCK

All you need is to add a 512mb Ram or 1GB (If you can afford it)
here is a link for 1GB DDR 1 ram: http://www.dww.net.au/product/i/22036/n/1gb-dimm.html
