My Internet Explorer and Firefox are going really really slow today and I have tried to do everything. I have cleared the cookies and history, did disk clean up, and safe mode. The only time when it goes fast is when it is in safe mode. So I think that there is something in a file or something that is making my Internet run slowly. I have DSL and it is not usually this slow. What can I do?
It's a hime computer running Windows Vista Ultimate and Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3 or something like tht
Home computer not hime computer ROFLMAO!!!!

Try doing a virus scan if you have a program that can do that, such as Norton.

If it’s a work computer, then you need to have IT check the server.
If it’s a home network, then it could just be that the internet provider’s server is overloaded, or they could be doing maintenance on the server(s), which will temporarily slow things down.

Diane,
Call your internet provider. I have Time Warner and I’ve been having the same problem, since Wednesday. It turns out something IS wrong… at their end, and so far they haven’t been able to fix it. But at least I know it’s not me.

I would do a scan for spy-ware, and viruses. If its working decent in safe mode, then there is some process or service in normal mode, that is eating bandwidth. In safe mode, only the most basic services load, which spy-ware and viruses are usually not part of, unless they are written very well, and some how get themselves in (seen it before, but very rarely)
