recently my internet has been slow enough for me to notice that it is a problem. I checked with my internet connection and its not the router or the cable’s prblem because my roommates have no problems. The rest of the computer is fine. Also, the internet speed improves if I turn my norton firewall off. Considering I have AVG for a while, i feel its ok to turn this off to imrpove my connection speed. But still, the internet is slow. What may be the problem? Is there a specific spyware or virus that i dont know about that is slowing my speed down? I applied winsockfix, and various other tools already.

As you said, the problem is Norton.
The head of Symantec is so sure of his own products, he uses a Mac instead of a PC.
If you have AVG, your computer should be safe enough.
Unless you are running a server, most people generally don’t need to worry about having a firewall, as there won’t be many open ports, especially behind a router.

Are you using limewire or any p2p filesharing? Limewire will really slow your system down.

I had a similer problem once. Right click the task bar to go to Task Manager and check if any unauthorised programs are running. Close them and bingo, you are back, swinging.

It would be nice to know if your computer has a wireless or wired connection. If it has i wireless it is because they can where out. But if not it is probably norton. norton is a massive program that requires lots of space and internet use

i have dial up with phone company i dial up with just a phone line i cannot down load my email so i can read it . i bought this e-machine friday and it took my husband all day to get me even connected back to the internet because i went in and started changing things with my internet providers settings he got it to connect back but how can i fix this with out messing every thing up

i dial up with a direct phone line from my home my provider is my phone company i do not know about limewire and the other devices i have not seen them i could not even dial my provider earlier because i had all the setting not as they should have been my friend got me back on it about an hour ago at first it kept disconnecting after a few seconds now i cant even down load my email files in my account because it will not load them. please help me fix this with out messing up my internet connetion i just bought this e-machine friday and it is new it would not even allow me to do a restore 0n it today
