Why is my PC “haunted” by a previously uninstalled antivirus software?

October 15th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I used to have Norton as my Antivirus Software, then uninstalled it and used another software, but it seems to continually ‘haunt’ my PC.
When i installed the new antivirus, it detected a ‘currently running antivirus software’. Even my recycle bin is labeled as “Norton protected bin” in my desktop.

I used the built-in uninstaller of Norton, then used a cleaner to fix my registry, scanned my programs by a different uninstaller software, but to no avail.

Is it some kind of a halloween curse? I’m a computer ignoramus. Please help. Thanks.

no, i dont like Norton..that's why i uninstalled it

Sometimes you can get a free Norton Antivirus license here:

      http://www.freesoftwarehunter.com/Norton-Antivirus/Norton-Antivirus

Perhaps now promotion is finished, but stay looking at it.

Go to Computer and click on your C drive. Go to program files and scroll down. Check for the program file name. If its there, remove it and see what happens. If it isn’t, make sure there isn’t any files with norton on them watsoever. If this doesn’t work, go to http://www.service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 - 33k -
      go remove it from there
