So, I was deleting some unneeded programs and preventing certain programs from running at startup when I noticed that the IE7 shortcut was gone from my desktop. I thought maybe I had accidently uninstalled IE, so I went and installed IE8. There was no desktop shortcut for that either. So now I’ve reinstalled IE7, but there’s still no desktop icon for it. Not only that, it isn’t listed under Start > All Programs either. I looked up previous answers to similar questions and none of the suggestions worked. I tried creating a shortcut by going to Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop, but IE isn’t even listed there for me to check. I found it under My Computer > Programs but I don’t know which subcategory of the Internet Explorer program to make a shortcut out of. The only way I got into IE this time was by clicking on Windows Update in the Star Menu. This is driving me nutty. What should I do?
I tried what y'all suggested but there is no 'iexplore.exe' or IE symbol to click on once I'm inside the Internet Explorer folder. There's a bunch of other stuff.

You can check for the “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer” directory, and you can try entering “iexplore” into the run box after you click start.

Go to your Internet Explorer directory in Program Files. There's a file there called iexplore.exe that you should right click and make a shortcut out of–it has the Internet Explorer icon.
To view filenames in a folder more easily:
On the top menu, go to "View."
Select "Details" from the options, it should appear with a bullet point next to it.
When you finish making the shortcut (it will say "Shortcut to Internet Explorer"), drag it onto your desktop and rename it to whatever you like.

when I go start-control panel–computer(up top next to control panel)-program files-internet explorer-there is a big INETERNET EXPLORER (E) that I can right click and make a short cut. when I right click my taskbar(the bar on bottom that contains the start button) and hover over toolbars then click next to quick launch It puts the (E) down there that I can right click on and make a shortcut. when I search for IE in search and have it search my main drives it brings up the (E)
