Windows Media Player Error - new msvcrt.dll Problem?

March 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment

OK, I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem yet, but this has been driving me mental for the past several days.

Just happened one day when I trying to play a few files and I got this message saying: "windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to shut down", and this happens with just about any movie clip or sound file I play. Tried downloading K-Lite codec pack and the problem still persists. The error report is as follows:

AppName: wmplayer exe
AppVer: 11.0.5721.5145
ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.5512
Offset: 0037fd4

Anyone else have an answer to this problem - and preferably *nothing* that has to do with upgrading to VCL Player, please.

Thanks

Try installing a wmp codec package from somewhere like http://www.download.com. it worked for me.
