ive downloaded the installer for windows media player but for some reason my mac doesnt know which program to open it with.
wen i click to download the installer, the window where u decide either to save to disk or open with program, pops up and the default program to open with is called StuffIt Expander. but once it finishes downloading the installer, it doesnt open with stuffit.
and also, when i save the installer to the disk, it turns into an icon with quicktime on it. so its opening with quicktime. i click on it and a message saying , "this file is not a movie" pops up. well no duh, the file is an installer for windows media player.
so any help here??

Actually, I'd bail on WMP for the Mac and download the Microsoft approved QuickTime extensions that do the same thing. Then you can play all that stuff in the QuickTime player, and browser extension…
You'll find both here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/flip4mac.mspx
You'll download a ".dmg" file which will appear on your desktop. Open it up, and from there you can run the installer.

Sorry about your troubles.
WMV works fine on Leopard, so never mind that.
But you do not need to download WMV Player to watch these files on your mac.
Simply go here http://perian.org/ and download this componet it's 100% free and you can watch anyhting through quicktime with it avi.mpeg.wmv.divx….. you name it
There is also "Flip for MAC" but the perian plug in gives you everything you need without have 50 different players on you hard drive…
Good Luck
