When i start my computer the following error message is shown
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinSit.exe". Make Sure you typed the name correctly, and try again. to search for a file, click the Strat button and then click Search. There was a worm in my system and i removed it using Avg. This started happening after that. I tried uncheking the box in the msconfig-startup, but this keeps on happening. What is the solution? How can I fix it??
reinstalling windows did not solve the problem. had to install avg to remove it

Uninstall the program for time being.

Unfortunately, AVG didn't completely wipe the virus from your computer. The virus isn't functioning anymore, but it's still attempting to start a service that it installed on your computer…(which is now gone so hence the error messages).
You can use another antivirus software and see if it catches it, or make sure your AVG is current.
When I get viruses, I just back up my files and re-install windows. A lot of times after getting a virus your computer will function, but will behave strangely at times. The best way to completely remove a virus is to back up your data files and re-install windows.

Well winsit.exe is a some kind of Trojan …. which automatically starts up with svchost.exe @ window start up ….is not associated with ms startup……..as you already deleted that Trojan from AVG ………………………….so diagnosing and correcting hardware and software problems that affect the startup process is an important troubleshooting skill. Resolving startup issues requires a clear understanding of the startup process and core operating system components.
For that you have full knowledge OS comp.
My advice is that
Easiest way just repair your window by running window Xp sp2 CD it will overwrite on your previous window and doesn't effect your previous window & previous installed program setting also ………..& solve ur problem too.
Bye
