windows updates xp wont work?

got a laptop here original windows xp but it wont update on the site. It says make sure the background itteligence is started which it is and event log is started which it is, but still wont let me update. any idears

      you might try this update to the background intelligence:

      Argh I hate it when this happens. I’m on Vista at the moment, but you have to do something like this:

      Go to Run and type ‘Services.msc’ without the quotes. Right click on Automatic Updates and click properties. On startup type, click ‘Automatic’.

      Do the same for Background Intelligence and Event Logs, and then restart your computer.
