Windows Validation Failure. Upgrade to vista?

So Its telling me that I don’t have a genuine version of windows and blah blah
and its telling me to buy a genuine windows xp licence.
and I’d just rather buy vista.
So I’m kind of confused.
Can I just buy one of those “upgrade from windows xp to vista” program things?
or am i not able to because my version of xp isn’t valid?

i sound like an idiot.
but computers confuse me.

      It sounds like your version of XP isn’t valid, and I think you’re running a pirated version of XP without knowing.

      I recommend you to call Microsoft Customer Services, the phone number should be in the instruction from you Vista package.
