I run on Windows Vista, and I was watching videos on Youtube yesterday when my computer suddenly restarted and gave me the Blue Screen Of Death(BSOD).
I have restarted the computer many times, but whenever it gets to the Desktop page, the BSOD appears and my computer restarts.
What should I do now?
And these are some questions I have as well:
1. Will going to a computer repair shop be better than DIY-ing at home?
2. Will I lose any files in my computer (music, photos, project information) when repairing the BSOD problem?
Please help me, and answer my 2 questions!
3. So if I do a system recovery I'll lose my files and all?:/
I just read about Startup Repair from the Windows Vista website. Will that cause me to lose my files?

Yes, your best bet is to take it to a shop and have it worked on if you don't know what you're doing on your own. You could always reformat, which you can do at home with the reformatting discs that came with your computer (or the internal reformat function that most newer computers have in place of the discs) but then it's guaranteed that you would lose all your files unless you backed them up first.

1. This could be caused by a device driver malfunctioning and corrupting memory.
2. Yes you can salvage your contents, the BSOD does not erase or harm your hard-drive.
3. To fix this try going to microsofts home page and downloading new patches and updates.
"the blue screen of death occurs when the kernel or a driver running in kernel mode encounters an error from which it cannot recover. This is usually caused by an illegal operation being performed. The only safe action the operating system can take in this situation is to manually restart the computer. As a result, data may be lost, as users are not given an opportunity to save data that has not yet been saved to the hard drive." - Wikipedia
You should backup your data on CD/DVD's and do a system recovery.

If you find the error message on the BSOD, about half way down, it should help you find the problem. There will be some code like Error at 0×000000CE. Put that code into Google.
If the BSOD goes too quickly then you can get it to stop there. On boot press F8 repeatedly. On the screen you get there are various startup options. Pick "Automatic restart on Fatal Error". You want to change that one.
Then boot. It will stop on the BSOD so you can read it.

Are you able to boot in safe mode (press F8 when Pc is booting up)? If so, boot into safe mode and log in. Click the start and under the search type in system restore. Click on it and it will prompt you to the date you would like to go to, chose a date that is a few days before the problem happened. you will not lose any data, the only thing that you can lose is, if you installed a program in the last few days which case just install it again. Hoep this helps!!
