Please i need some help! I have a sony vaio with windows vista installed however it isn't Genuine. A pop-up keeps telling me that microsoft isn't genuine or whatever.
I don't know what to do. Do I need to buy a genuine copy of vista? How much would that cost? I tried system restore however it doesn't work.
*Someone brought the computer for me in China (which was in chinese) so they had to install a english version of vista. which is fake and i want to get the genuine copy.
Thanks in advance =)

To buy a new one would cost $200-$400, depending on which one.

You have to buy a new genuine version.
Check here for prices:

It's kind of expensive.
Especially since Vista is a newer type of Windows Programming, and that it is best used for business, which makes it more highclass/expensive.
I suggest you reformat your computer & re-install English.
But if You can't read Chinese, therefore, you cannot reinstal English, I think you should ask for some help.
I bought my computer @ Future shop, and it was about $800 for the monitor and the PC.

You will have to buy the OS at a retail store, probably $100 or more

You can probably find the program that is creating these pop ups and execute it but that takes at least some computer knowledge. if your planing on just getting a genuine version dont waste your money on vista though. It is a terrible mac OS rip off and you should probably just stick with XP if your not looking to spend a bunch on a mac. And assuming since you werent sure what to do with the pop ups (no offense) your probably not smart enough to run linux.

one or two things to look at here
first of all when you got your laptop from a friend was vista already installed on it if it was you should have a recovery cd that came with it. If you have a recovery cd then you should have a partition on your hd with windows vista files on it.
If that is so try formatting your main hd leave the partition alone and then re-install your vista os and select the uk
If you only have a copy of vista then you will need to get a legal version from your local computer store
