im trying to install vista ultimate on my computer that has xp on it. i put in the disc when the computer was already running. the screen came up and i followed all the steps n then it was finished. so i rebooted my computer and it went to a screen, i forget what it said but the only way i could pass by it is is i loaded a “older version of windows” so i pressed that and i took me to the normal sign in screen. so i restarted without the vista disk then restarted with it and it went to the screen that says install now. the same window as i started out with. so i tried to enter the product key again and when i pressed next it wont let me to the next part. said something about continuing my previous installation
just to upgrade and keep all my files……….at the very last of my question. when i get to the product key and enter it this is what it says…..to use the product key you entered, start the installation from your existing version of windows

Are you looking to do a clean install which will wipe everything you have on your computer and replace it with a fresh copy of vista?
Or are you looking to do an upgrade to windows vista keeping all your files and information?
