ok so i own 2 computers one with vista and one with windows xp recently i decided i would put vista onto the xp computer. i did and i knew i would have to get a new product key after 30 days. now the 30 days are up and i need one? my question is can i buy any vista home basic package from a shop etc. and use its key? or will i have to reinstall with the disk that came with it because now that the computer is in reduced functionally mode i cannot load disks and also cannot Boot from Cd’s. so really all i need is a windows vista home basic product key! any help?

yes, you can use just a key, if you have installed same version of vista
else you will need to install “home basic” version and activate it with this key. But do not forget that I am not from M$ licensing department

The reduced functionality mode still allows you to enter a valid product key. And as soon as you have entered the key the reduced functionality is removed and full operation is restored.
You do not have to reinstall the operating system (unless you want to, of course). The 30 days limit was introduced to allow ‘try before you buy’. The feature-disabling is a strong incentive to remove it or pay for it after that time is up! But if you’re going to pay, Microsoft don’t want to make you reinstall - they just want to restrict piracy - so even in it’s current state you’ll be able to add the key and bring your PC back.
