Interesting problem - Was trying to configure XP SP2 on my Thinkpad to share my CD Rom so I could install some SW on my kids computer (they broke the CD player)
No clue what happened but now windows won’t fully start either as a
normal boot or or in safe mode (command prompt does work however). I say fully start since the Start Menu never comes up. Looks like services do install.
I assumed it was a registry issue and restored to a restore point from
a few days ago .. unfortunatly no help. Note, I had to do this
manually via an XP Boot Disk as the System Restore application would not show any restore points.
Odd — I’m not sure where to go. I do have a drive image from a few
months ago (acronis) and a titan backup but I have not been as up on
doing backups as I need to. I will try install/run Titan temporarily
via a boot disk and I think I may have a recovery path but any
suggestions on how I might recover w/o a full restore.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. (I know I should be more on
Andy
