I recently got a new laptop and wanted to upgrade the system to windows xp, but Iwanted to do it throught a usb stick since I don’t have a dvd drive in my hp 2133 mininote. I know how to install it but its just that the windows xp home edition cds that I have are too big. 8 cd’s in all that equal 4gb in size and my usb stick is 1gb. I heard that people have 1 cd for windows xp and is there anywhere where I could download a copy for free?

Not legally, no. There is nowhere you can download it for free.
I've never heard or seen in all my years as a professional computer repair technician, a windows XP home or Pro upgrade disc take up anything other than a single CD… let alone 8 cds. Now, if you were talking about Vista, I could understand.
I also see part of your problem, as this computer is only offered from HP with either SUSE Linux, or Windows Vista. So, you don't want to upgrade to XP. You want to Downgrade to XP. Since there is an issue with terminology, I am really beginning to doubt that you have any copy of any version of XP at all. Why would a company that sells a computer without an optical drive, give you optical media to restore it with? Why would you purchase an "upgrade" that would not work anyway (you can't upgrade from Vista to XP, and you can't upgrade from SUSE to XP) on an Optical Media when you don't have an Optical Drive?
You are going to have to purchase a copy of Windows XP, because you are going to need a key to have a legal copy. When you do, it is going to only be on a single CD. You can then download the drivers from HP.

I'd suggest going with XP Pro. http://www.buy.com/prod/microsoft-windows-xp-professional-with-service-pack-3-license-and/q/loc/105/208018286.html
$160
You are just going to have to spend the money on an External CD/DVD… which by the way, isn't all that expensive.

$65. Not bad, for the ability to now have a CD/DVD burner with that mininote of yours.
