Recently I’ve been having a lot of problems with my computer. I currently have Windows 98, and I don’t really know how. Well I’m trying to re-install my XP CD, but after maybe 10 minutes this thing pops up and it says
“blocked software”
Microsoft Shared Fax Client
and then it says
“Warnings”
WAN Miniport (ATW)
I’ve tried deleting these files, and they don’t seem to appear to even be on my computer, either that or I can’t find them. I tried searching for the files, but no exact name like those two files comes up. The first I installed XP, those two files never came up, and now I can’t continue the installation.
Can someone please help me and tell me how I can continue my download? Or delete those files?
I'm trying to update to XP again..I tried reformatting my hard drive, but my disk has a scratch in it, and won't work right.

I’m confused why are you trying to download XP. Why not just format the hard drive and install XP?

Windows 98 uses the fat32 file system, where XP works with the NTFS file system. You have to fdisk your existing hard drive and then format it. You can also download a program called “partition manager” which will allow you to delete the Fat partition and set up an NTFS partition, and then format your drive. Then you can do a fresh boot from your xp disc from either method. If your XP disc is too damaged, contact microsoft for a replacement disk. You can use your win98 startup floppy disk to fdisk and format your drive.
