I was recently prompted with the error message " reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" So I put in the windows xp cd. It took me to the setup page where I had three options. setup windows xp, use recovery console or quit (F3). I read that I should try setup again before using recovery console. So I did that. An error came up saying that there was something wrong with the hard drive could not detect it or something I should have written the message down. So I unplugged the hardrive IDE cables from the motherboard as well as the power supply cable and reattached them and rebooted. It goes through its normal check and take me back to this setup screen, but now it freezes on this page. It doesnt matter which option I select.
Any help would be appreciated. I fear the worse that the hard drive is done. But I am not sure. It could be something simple. Looking forward to responses.

Usually when there is a disk error it means that it's trying to boot up by reading a drive that doesn't have the OS on it first. Make sure you unplug all Disk Drives except the one with the Windows OS CD in it, and then plug in one HDD. Check your drives, try using different cables to connect them. Make sure your cables are plugged in the right slots, and make sure your hard drives work. Make sure BIOS boot-up order reads from the drive with the OS Disk on it first.
