i have a DELL dimension XPS desktop
pentium 4 HT
2.8 Ghz
1Gb ram
ati radeon 9800 pro
200Gb sata hdd
its been on the copying files setup for 3 hours - CRAWLING.
do i need to update bios or what?
added:
new hard drive (200Gb)
new ram (1Gb)
xp disk is new too.
linux ubuntu was previously on this machine. now its on another. i wanna use this one for xp.
4 hrs into installation… (blue screen… copying setup files 51% complete) been at 51 for 27minutes
okay…. a day later…. still installing. it says 14 minutes left….. however at the rate that its going its more like 2 more hours. im close to 24 hrs now.
WHY? WHY? WHY?

The disk could be scratched or your hard drive could be failing.

may be ur ram might have got corrupted slowing down the speed .just check it out.

At what stage has it reached? If it is still in the blue screen with white letters, the xp disk could be having problems being read. Try if possible and use another CD drive. Some of the earlier versions of xp had problems on the set up disk. ( I had one) Check Microsoft to see if they have had reports of similar issues.
