I’m trying to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home on a SATA drive. It won’t start, I went into Setup and tried to change the boot sequence. It sees a floppy drive which there is no floppy but it doesn’t see the CD/DVD Drive. Any Suggestions? I’ve never encountered anything like this
This is a brand new SATA 500 GB Drive fresh out of the box. I had swapped out the old drive which some how went dead on my gf’s dad. He doesn’t use the computer, just his wife and their kids.
It doesn’t see the drive. It only sees a floppy and no CD/DVD drive which is installed and I already tried reseating the cables.

The drivers for that SATA are most likely not included on the install disk. You need to use NLite (google it) and slip stream the drivers for the HD into the installation image, then re-burn it to CD.

hmm ok re-hook up the cables (check to see if the IDM cables are fastened… also the red yellow cables *Sorry dont remember the names for those* then boot up the computer it doesnt always read on the first boot up
(well the Dell i was fixing didnt i had to go into BIOS a check each time)
Also make shure the BIOS settings are right and that you have the CD Drive on Auto and not OFF
