Windows XP service pack 3 - Are there going to be problems if I uninstall it?

May 21st, 2009 · 2 Comments

I'm a gamer and many of the mods I want have service pack 2 in the requirements.
I have had all kinds of weird lags and glitches ever since I installed service pack 3 and would really like to revert to the 2nd pack.
System restore was turned off for a while, so that isn't an option.

Yeah, I had the exact same problem, The easiest way is to go into your Add/Remove programs and it should have SP3 there and just uninstall it.

Obviously you lost performance with its installation. So yes you should remove it.

But if at any time your going to try it again, I would suugest creating a Slipstreamed version of the OS. It seems to install with less side effects.

What it could also be is that you need to reinstall drivers for the Chipset, Lan, Sound, GPU as they might be in conflict.

just to be sure your not infected:

Good luck with the uninstall. And there is nothing truely in the SP3 that you need. SP2 has been working great for me without issue.

Also, if this is a named box, some companies have a Patch that needed to be run prior to the SP3 install.
