Windows XP sound problem - okay on start up but not when playing CDs or Games?

September 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have windows XP (service pack 3) system. When computer starts up the sound is fine, I hear the windows start up jingle and can go to the control panel/sounds audio devices and hear the different audio preset sounds supplied by Microsoft.
I can go youtube and play and hear music videos.
But if I go on to a game (EA sports 08, EA Tiger Woods 07, Lego star wars II) or try to play and ordinary audio CD - I no longer have sound through the speakers (but is ok via headphones). Then have to reboot to get the speaker sound working again.
I have Advent speakers and have reinstalled the drivers and it still doesn’t work.
any ideas?
thanks

Go to windows updates and click on custom.
Custom will show you if there is any update for the software & hardware that is on your computer.
