I may of downloaded something I wasn't supposed to. Anybody else get this problem? Does anybody know where to go to fix the virus immediately without waiting 5 hours for AVG to do the entire scan through?

try another anti virus such as Avira or comodo anti virus once loaded if you can try starting in safe mode "F8" then run them again as in safe mode only windows programs are loaded so you will have to look and start the anti virus program manualy

Go to taks manager
click new task
browse to C:\Windows\
click on explorer.exe
click open and you should get your icons back,
this is only temporary so download AVG 8, or 7 Free Edition
remove the virus, it should stop doing that

So you have absolutely nothing on the desktop ?try to right click the desktop and select Properties>Desktop.Then click the Cusomize Desktop button(it's under the available desktop themes).Here you can restore some icons(My Comupter,My Document and Recycle Been) Once you have the My Computer icon the rest is easy.Just enter and click "change a setting" (from the right menu) and you should be on Control Panel.from here you can figure it out

Start windows in safe mode by hitting F8 several times at boot up..When in safe mode..Click on Start, programs , accessories, system tools,, system restore..
Open system restore and choose a restore date, that your computer was working fine..Follow the instructions and reboot.
My advice would be to get a decent anti virus,,Avg is a system hog and is not very effective..It sucks..It's free..
Malicious code is written for the most common software to increase it's effectiveness,,And whats the most common?
Anything free..or mainstream….
Pay a few dollars for decent protection…It's well worth it..
Check out Nod32 by Eset,, Probably one of the best Antivirus programs available…
