With older versions of Norton Internet Security for a firewall, isn’t it still going to protect the computer?

August 21st, 2008 · 5 Comments

If you should upgrade from a program that’s five years old or so to stay “current” with your security, why is it that the older version is not as reliable to prevent intrusion (i.e., Norton’s method of covering all the incoming ports is no longer going to protect you?)? The newest versions might have some improvements, but why would the older versions not keep you safe anymore?
If it's true, WHY won't the software detect intrusions?

its because the old versions have problems and it may not be reliable anymore…so upgrade to the newer versions….if they fixed the old versions there wont be a new version

‘Yes” your computer will still be protected but your security updated will not work and the updates are very important as it keep up with the latest virus threats, patches, and intrusions prevention. But since you did an upgrade your computer is up-to-date with everything. There are always new threats, and viruses out more so todate than ever before that is why it is very important to keep your antivirus program up-to-date even if it means if you have to do an upgrade.. During upgrade it install everything that is needed to bring your antivirus program up-to-date with the latest protection. even if it is an older version. You ask a question, does norton method of covering all the incoming ports is no longer going to protect you? and the answer is’Yes’ the intrusion ports were weak with the older version but they have impoved with the newer version, and now it covers the incoming and outgoing ports (I know because I have the newer version) With the newer version of Norton Internet Security you get (a strong firewall, including the intrusion prevention protection) and it is awesome (I just upgraded to this version to get this new intrusion prevention protections) So you did the right thing by upgrading to a newer version as the older version were out-dated . Good Luck always.
