I used to have AOL with it I downloaded the McAfee free edition from AOL. I don't have AOL anymore. I have DSL. I was wondering if Avira free or AVAST! free would be a better option?
The reason I ask is b/c sometimes I get virus alerts from McAfee. It says it cleaned and removed whatever it was it found, but when I run SuperAntiSpyware it finds the same thing, and then IT removes the virus/trojan.
I'm sorry if I don't make much sense. I am trying to explain the best I can.
Thanks in advance.

You mean the program, if it is a program keeps coming back. Are you sure it's not a tracking cookie? Those come back when you visit certain websites. Next time your scanner finds the object see if you can find out what it is. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense that it can't be cleaned completely by McAfee, unless it's a fairly new pain.

McAfee will only be free for so long and then you will have to pay. SuperAntispyware is a Spyware/Adware program and looks for different things than an Anti virus. So yes get rid of McAfee and go for any of the free anti virus programs. Avast is good but so are AVG, Comodo or Avira. You only need to download one as two anti viruses running together will conflict and make your computer run very slow, so make sure you uninstall your McAfee when you download the other Anti Virus. Keep the Antispyware. Another good adware/spyware program is Antimalbytes Antimalware which can be run along side of both your other programs. Hope this helps.

I have never used SAS personally, but I did some checking on comparisons with other spyware removal software. The link below points to a forum I found. Even though it's dated (2006), it might be worth your while to read.
I totally can't stand McAfee and its cohort (Norton) so I remove them through Control Panel and get something else. Along those same lines, I don't know why AOL continues to be popular except that it's been around so long. I use Avast, Avira, Nod32, AVG…anything but those two beasts!
By the way, you explained it just fine. Good luck with your situation and I hope this helps.

SuperantiSpyware may be finding the quarantined items from McAfee, and flagging them for that reason. Maybe it was cleaned by McAfee, but put into a quarantine that the other software is finding somehow…
My concern about "free McAfee", is that it may not update after a period of time, leaving you vulnerable. Check the updates on McAfee to see if it is still updating the virus signature files. If not, time to move onto something else. If McAfee is still updating ok, and you are satisfied with that product, maybe stay with it…
