Yahoo Toolbar is not in Add/Remove Programs - how to remove?

Yahoo Toolbar is not in my Add/Remove programs but it appears in my Internet Explorer and I want it gone. No "pencil" icon appears either, and there's no way to widen the tool bar. A magnifying glass icon appears next to the toolbar and a down arrow that does not offer any way to remove the Yahoo Tool bar. How do I get rid of it? I was very careful not to install it and always used Custom installs of other software to prevent the tool bar's installation, and it still was sneaked in, possibly by AVG antivirus. How do I get rid of it?
